Trip program

The tour takes place in the most popular mountain area within Beitostølen. Riding on both gravel roads and natural terrain, the route takes us to a snowy covered mountain with 360 degree panoramic views to majestic peaks, lush expanses of lowland and fresh mountain lakes.

Each season here provides a unique experience. In spring time you can experience the blooming flora in the lowlands, and see views of snow covered mountain peaks, reflecting down into icy mountain lakes. In fall, you’ll ride through colourful autumnal landscapes, breathe in fresh mountain air, and see mountain tops sprinkled with fresh snow.

Trip description

Day 1

Arrival between 4:00 and 7:00 pm. (Other time can be arranged if one has difficulty reaching in due time).

Check-in to cabins.

Group dinner at 07:00 pm. We’ll give a trip overview and explain about practical information about where we will ride, what to pack, and equipment.

Get to know the farm and meet the horses.

Day 2

We meet in the stables at 09:30 am, after breakfast. Meet your horse, saddle-up, and ride out on trek

Take your packed lunch and a cold drink in your saddlebag. Halfway through the day, we will take a break where we enjoy lunch around a campfire. Campfire coffee is served, and listen to the guide talk about tales from the area.

Towards the end of the afternoon, at about 16:00 pm, we arrive at our traditional mountain cabin on the lake side of Olevann. Here we will spend the night. Please note there is no electricity, but a peaceful and comfortable atmosphere is guaranteed! For the adventurous ones, you are welcome to take a swim in Olevann.

Dinner is served by candlelight and fireplace in the evening. Outside, the horses graze peacefully on Stølsvollen, in the surroundings of the cabin.

Day 3

Awaken to the sounds of bells from mountain goats, birds singing, or perhaps the silence of the mountain in the morning. We enjoy breakfast outside (weather permitting), before setting out on the day’s route at about 10:00 am.

This stage of the trip is a favourite for many. We ride up Oleskaret, up onto Olefjellet to get 360 degree panoramic views! On a clear day you can see Jotunheimen with its impressive snow covered peaks,Vinstervann towards Bygdin in the northwest, Bjødenholen in the southeast, and Skaget mountain at the entrance to Langsua National Park.

We ride along the ridge on Olefjellet and enjoy the view, before we find a suitable place to rest, have lunch and enjoy ourselves around a camp fire.

The tour continues down towards Øysterli, before we return “home” to the mountain cabin at around 16.00 pm.

If you want to go for a little hike to stretch some muscles after days in the saddle, there are many nice walks to do. From the cabin you can for example go to Geitekyrkja, Svoloberg or Øddeberg.

Dinner is at 18:00 pm with “after horse” around the fire.

Day 4

We enjoy a good breakfast before we pack up and set out on the route back to the farm. We depart approximately 11:00 am. When we arrive at the farm, we attend to and unsaddle the horses, then release them out to the pasture. We finish the day with lunch around 01:00 pm.

Departure from the farm at approximately 03:00 pm.

Our experienced guides are very familiar with the area and are well acquainted with the stories of Huldra, Jotnene and Stølslivet from old days to the present. They are happy to share their experiences and stories along the way.
